Check If You Might Qualify for Mensa

Our test gives you a reliable estimate. If you score 130+, you may be Mensa-eligible.

Mensa is the world's largest and oldest high-IQ society, with over 145,000 members in 100+ countries. Membership requires scoring in the top 2% on a standardized IQ test. Here's everything you need to know about qualifying.

    What Is Mensa?

Founded in England in 1946, Mensa International is a non-profit organization open to anyone who scores at or above the 98th percentile on an approved intelligence test. The name comes from the Latin word for "table" — symbolizing equality among members.

Mensa has no political or religious affiliations. Its stated purpose is to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity, and to provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members.

What Is the Mensa Test Like?

The official Mensa supervised test (in the US, called the Mensa Admission Test) consists of two separate tests:

    • Test 1: Timed, multiple-choice questions covering logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and spatial ability
    • Test 2: A different format covering similar cognitive domains
    • Duration: About 2 hours total including instructions
    • Format: Supervised, in-person at a Mensa testing center
    • Scoring: You need to qualify on at least one of the two tests

Can Online IQ Tests Qualify You for Mensa?

    Important Note

Online IQ tests (including ours) cannot be used for official Mensa membership. Mensa requires supervised testing by an approved proctor. However, online tests are excellent for gauging whether you're likely to qualify before investing time and money in the official test.

If you score 130+ on our test, it's a strong indicator that you may qualify for Mensa. We recommend taking the official Mensa practice test as a next step, then scheduling the supervised admission test if you score well.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Mensa test cost?

In the US, the Mensa Admission Test costs approximately $40. Prices vary by country. The test can be retaken after a waiting period (usually 6 months to 1 year).

What is the minimum age for Mensa?

There is no minimum age. Mensa has members as young as 2 years old (with parental consent for minors). There are also special programs for gifted youth.

Can I use my SAT or ACT scores for Mensa?

Scores from before 1994 may be accepted. More recent SAT/ACT scores are generally not accepted as they were re-normed and are no longer considered IQ-equivalent tests.

What percentage of people qualify for Mensa?

Exactly 2% of the population qualifies. In the US, that's about 6.5 million people, but only about 57,000 are actual members.
